Realistic and Impressionist Masterpieces from the Burrell Collection&#8221; From May 18th to September 23th, in the Cantini Museum of Marseilles.&nbsp;This private mansion, built in 1694 by the Compagnie du Cap N\u00e8gre, was bought in 1709 by the Montgrand family, who kept it until 1801. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Later, it kept several owners, remaining for more than half a century the seat from the &#8220;Circle of Phoceans&#8221; Born into a family of wealthy shipowners, he soon acquired some <strong>Impressionist<\/strong> works, as well as a rich collection of <strong>Art<\/strong> from all around the world, as a humanist and <strong>Art<\/strong> lover. Those two canvases&nbsp;<strong>Le Mendiant<\/strong> (The Charity of the Beggar) (photo up) and the <strong>Nature Morte<\/strong>, by the same <strong>Gustave Courbet<\/strong>, make us wonder about the meaning of life, and the mutual help between the poor and the rich.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1817 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Courbet-Nature-morte-300x237.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"272\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Courbet-Nature-morte-300x237.jpg 300w, https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Courbet-Nature-morte-768x606.jpg 768w, https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Courbet-Nature-morte-1024x808.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 272px) 100vw, 272px\" \/><\/strong><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1816 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Daumiers-Suzanne-et-les-Vieillards-e1585740574824.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Daumiers-Suzanne-et-les-Vieillards-e1585740574824.jpg 1917w, https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Daumiers-Suzanne-et-les-Vieillards-e1585740574824-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Daumiers-Suzanne-et-les-Vieillards-e1585740574824-768x579.jpg 768w, https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Daumiers-Suzanne-et-les-Vieillards-e1585740574824-1024x771.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 286px) 100vw, 286px\" \/><\/strong>Above all, the painter sketches a scene, taken on the spot out from a certain hyper realism, despite a <em>sfumato<\/em> touch&#8230; The small formats of <strong>Millet<\/strong> and <strong>Corot<\/strong>, rub shoulders with large paintings of <strong>Boudin<\/strong> or <strong>Marines Bonvin<\/strong>&#8230; It&#8217;s an interesting plunge in the contemporary world of <strong>Sir William Burrell<\/strong>, the society in full movement, with rural and agricultural scenes, but also in full modernism.<\/p>\n<p>Not to mention a fascinating example of <strong>Daumier<\/strong>&#8216;s caricatures (photo below with <strong>Suzanne et les Vieillards<\/strong>), which represents as a person, all the characters of the everyday life of the middle of the 19th century, with malice, irony and without any concession!<br \/>\nFinally a specific room of the <strong>Cantini Museum<\/strong> is devoted to a couple of sacred artists, that are <strong>Manet<\/strong>, <strong>Degas<\/strong> and <strong>Sisley<\/strong>, including panoramas with dancers, scenes of street or cabaret, and some contemporary lives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Cantini Museum, an ancient mansion in the heart of Marseilles<\/strong><br \/>\nBuilt in 1694, it is one of the few private mansions still to be found in <strong>Marseille<\/strong>, unlike <strong>Aix-en-Provence<\/strong>, its neighbor city. It now houses an interesting collection of mainly <strong>French<\/strong> art, covering the period from 1900 to 1960. In addition to the first collection bequeathed by <strong>Jules Cantini<\/strong>, it houses nowadays works of major <strong>French<\/strong> museums, extracted from the&nbsp;<strong>Mus\u00e9e National Picasso<\/strong>, <strong>Orsay Museum<\/strong>, <strong>Beaubourg Pompidou Center<\/strong>, among many others&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>There are also paintings arising from several artistic movements, counting on&nbsp;<strong>Dufy<\/strong>, <strong>Picasso<\/strong>, <strong>Derain<\/strong>, <strong>C\u00e9zanne<\/strong>, some other <strong>Surrealists<\/strong> (<strong>Max Ernst<\/strong>, <strong>de Chirico<\/strong> (pictured nearby), also <strong>Neo-Figurative<\/strong>&nbsp;and <strong>Abstract<\/strong>, such as <strong>Kandinsky<\/strong>, <strong>Dubuffet<\/strong>, <strong>Fernand L\u00e9ger <\/strong>(those two last pictured nearby), <strong>Juan Mir\u00f3<\/strong>, <strong>Roberto Matta<\/strong> (the largest <strong>French<\/strong> collection)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1828 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Roberto-Matta-Collection-Muse\u0301e-Cantini-232x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Roberto-Matta-Collection-Muse\u0301e-Cantini-232x300.jpg 232w, https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Roberto-Matta-Collection-Muse\u0301e-Cantini-768x992.jpg 768w, https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Roberto-Matta-Collection-Muse\u0301e-Cantini-793x1024.jpg 793w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1827 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Max-Ernst-Collection-Muse\u0301e-Cantini-241x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"241\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Max-Ernst-Collection-Muse\u0301e-Cantini-241x300.jpg 241w, https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Max-Ernst-Collection-Muse\u0301e-Cantini-768x954.jpg 768w, https:\/\/francevisiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Max-Ernst-Collection-Muse\u0301e-Cantini-824x1024.jpg 824w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 241px) 100vw, 241px\" \/>Only downstairs, a dedicated <strong>Museum<\/strong>&#8216;s room had been organized, in order to expose some paintings inspired by the <strong>Provencal-Marseille<\/strong>&nbsp;trend, which were normally in the <strong>Museum of Fine Arts<\/strong>, located in the majestic&nbsp;<strong>Longchamp Palace<\/strong>&#8230; It could also be the object of a pleasant walk, and discover at the same time, in another&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">district of <strong>Marseille<\/strong>, through a big urban park, adorned with a playful&nbsp;<\/span>game of impressive fountains in&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">cascades.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">The beneficent waters of&nbsp;the <strong>Durance<\/strong>, an alpine river, situated in the north of this <strong>Provence<\/strong> region, indeed arrives until this bucolic city point&#8230; before feeding fresh water to another part of <strong>Marseilles<\/strong>.
