This quintessential <strong>historic city<\/strong> has observed many changes, including the location of its entrance <strong>Germanicus Arch<\/strong>, which dates back from 18 AD. Witness to the history of the capital of the <strong>Roman<\/strong> province of <strong>Aquitaine<\/strong>. This monumental <strong>arch<\/strong> marked the start (or finish) of the <em><strong>Via Agrippa<\/strong><\/em> which linked <strong>Saintes<\/strong> to <strong>Lyon<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This ancient <strong>monument<\/strong> was therefore moved stone by stone, with the help of <strong>Victor Hugo<\/strong> who helped this reconstruction by numbering stones one by one. It may have been the <strong>Abbess<\/strong>&#8216; apartments, where stand actually the <strong>music conservatory<\/strong> and even an <strong>hotel<\/strong>.
