As a real family affair, pursuing the heritage from his father’s farm, Christophe Pichon has been producing wine since 1993, on a surface of 25 hectares covering some of the most prestigious appellations from the wide and internationally acclaimed Rh\u00f4ne Valley area. <\/strong><\/div>\n

Holy Saint-Joseph<\/strong>..<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Following this, don’t miss the 6.5 ha<\/strong> belonging to red<\/strong> Saint-Joseph<\/strong><\/em> and 2 ha related to white<\/strong> Saint Joseph<\/strong><\/em>. This colorful wedding<\/strong> is located on the right bank of the Rh\u00f4ne<\/strong> river, with these plots<\/strong> being based on homogeneous and essentially granitic<\/strong> soils.  Structured by vines<\/strong> evolving on sloped planted terraces<\/strong>, those vineyards<\/strong> stand on a large scale age<\/strong> range, from 5 (notably in white juices) until the early 50 years old. This mixity<\/strong> probably explains the heterogeneity and richness of flavors<\/strong>, present inside the line of Saint-Joseph<\/strong><\/em> (mostly composed of 90% Marsanne<\/strong><\/em> and 10% Roussanne<\/strong><\/em> for the white<\/strong> wines and only Syrah<\/strong><\/em> varieties for the red<\/strong> wines), issued by this Domaine Christophe Pichon<\/strong>. For instance, why don’t you ask for this delicate 2019<\/strong> Saint Joseph<\/strong><\/em>, expressing the purity from Marsanne<\/strong><\/em>? Aged during 10 months<\/strong> in barrels<\/strong> of 3 years<\/strong> maximum, you could also feel a touch of granite<\/strong>, but also fresh floral <\/strong>and honeyed <\/strong>notes that would match with fishes<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This wine<\/strong> is a promise..<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Adding to this, don’t miss the 5.9 ha extending on the C\u00f4te R\u00f4tie<\/strong><\/em>, which is maybe one of the oldest vineyards<\/strong> in France<\/strong>, with an additional 1.3 ha of surface this year 2020, starring a southern exposition on hillsides<\/strong>. For your information, and depending on the location of the vineyards<\/strong>, a distinction needs to be made between the C\u00f4te R\u00f4tie Brune<\/strong><\/em>, which offers more full-bodied<\/strong> wines that age more slowly, and in another hand, the C\u00f4te R\u00f4tie Blonde<\/strong><\/em> side which proposes more delicate<\/strong> wines. It’s commonly known that Syrah<\/strong><\/em> is the main grape variety<\/strong> of this appellation<\/strong>, which is sometimes added by a touch of Viognier<\/strong><\/em> variety. In this case, we could suggest you to try the C\u00f4te R\u00f4tie Promesse 2019<\/strong><\/em>, fully made of 90% Syrah<\/strong><\/em> and 10% Viognier<\/strong><\/em>. Therefore, the aging<\/strong> phase is estimated of 13 months<\/strong>, 75% realized in new<\/strong> barrels<\/strong> and 25% in one-year old<\/strong> barrels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The aging<\/strong> is the same for the C\u00f4te R\u00f4tie Rozier 2019<\/strong><\/em>, but this time only in new barrels<\/strong>. This sensation of young barrels<\/strong> still pursues with the C\u00f4te R\u00f4tie La Comtesse<\/strong><\/em> cuv\u00e9e, but here during 18 months<\/strong>. This C\u00f4te Blonde 2018<\/strong><\/em> features precious Syrah<\/strong><\/em> grapes, with the oldest vines<\/strong> planted in 1933<\/strong>. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

Adding to this, count on the 1 ha of Cornas<\/strong><\/em> appellation that should be mentioned through the acquisition of grapes<\/strong>, again evolving on a granite<\/strong> soil situated at the top and middle of the slopes<\/strong>. Those fruits<\/strong> mainly grow on plots<\/strong> located on the left bank of the Rh\u00f4ne<\/strong> river on schist<\/strong> soils. There, you could find a mix between 0.75 ha of Syrah<\/strong><\/em>, and 0.25 ha of Viognier<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

For example, we suggest you this Cuv\u00e9e “All\u00e9gorie” 2019<\/strong><\/em>, vinified from this AOP<\/strong> Cornas<\/strong><\/em>. Its vines<\/strong> are planted on steeply sloping granite soil<\/strong>, based in Cornas<\/strong> in Ard\u00e8che<\/strong>, on the right bank of the Rh\u00f4ne<\/strong> river, near Valence<\/strong>. This red wine<\/strong> holds a very deep ruby red<\/strong> color, anticipating an elegant fragrance of red<\/strong> and black fruits<\/strong>, so representative of Syrah<\/strong><\/em>. Inside your palate, you could find a fruity and balances wine<\/strong>, including spicy<\/strong> and peppery<\/strong> touches, able to harmonize your grilled<\/strong> pieces and Savoy cheeses<\/strong>.<\/div>\n
