The architect Giovanni Pace<\/strong> joins the constructions of Mailly Grand Cru<\/strong> and the Barcelona Pavilion<\/strong> by Mies van der Rohe<\/strong>, which both began in 1929<\/strong>..<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Following our article<\/a> about Champagne Grand Cru<\/a>, we tell you about you the last creation of one of its main players the Champagne Mailly<\/a>, a Maison grounded in 1929. Indeed, this (soon centenary) exploitation is one of the oldest cooperative structures in Champagne. The first 24 winegrowers who joined had in common that they all had vines in the village of Mailly Champagne and that they wanted to better sell their harvest to the champagne houses by forming a company. Nowadays, this cooperative counts no less than 90 members for 40 wineries, spread over 35 lieux-dits<\/em>, enjoying a privileged natural environment, through this Grand Cru<\/em> terroir<\/em>, located in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Montagne de Reims, as a unique terroir<\/em> expression. <\/strong>By AP<\/em><\/p>\n

A centenary cooperative<\/strong> reviving back in time..<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Thanks to a range of distinct vineyards<\/strong>, extended on more than 600 plots, or 35 localities, cultivated like precious gardens<\/strong>, all offering a pleasant panorama<\/strong> on the Champagne<\/strong> reliefs, punctuated by the artistic shapes of the valleys<\/strong>. This is where, day after day, season after season, those winegrowers<\/strong> get down to work in these grapevines<\/strong>, with respect and passion, both in solidarity and in the strong commitment regarding the sustainability<\/strong> of the domain, thanks to a double HVE\/VDC<\/strong> certification (High Environmental Value\/Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

For your information, the Mailly Grand Cru<\/strong> estate is known as one of the rare Champagne<\/strong> properties, exclusively endowed with the Grand Cru<\/strong> appellation in Champagne<\/strong>. This includes no less than 35 localities, facing the 4 cardinal points<\/strong> drawing its vineyard<\/strong>. This time, we can notice that a certain creative<\/strong> spirit that fuels countless projects <\/b>generated by the teams of the Champagne<\/strong> Mailly<\/strong> domain, since a certain focus<\/strong> has been put on a real originality<\/strong> displayed on many points. For instance, we can observe this fact with the C\u00f4teaux Champenois<\/strong><\/em> cuv\u00e9e<\/em> that features a champagne ros\u00e9<\/em><\/strong>, belonging to the niche<\/strong> tribe of nearly pink juices<\/strong>..<\/p>\n

Indeed, dressed in a brilliant ruby<\/strong> color, this C\u00f4teaux Champenois<\/strong> cuv\u00e9e<\/em> only wears the colors and aromas of Pinot Noir<\/strong> variety. The second notable<\/strong> point reminds us the geographic<\/strong> position of the plots, as 49\u00b009\u201929\u2019\u2019 N \u2013 4\u00b006\u201929\u2019\u2019 E<\/strong>. This leads to more precision about this limited edition<\/strong> series only counting 2,920<\/strong> bottles, which are all numbered<\/strong>, covered by an elegant label<\/strong> and a natural cork<\/strong> to remove with care.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For instance, this nectar<\/strong> is the consequence of a blend between two years of 2018<\/strong> and 2019<\/strong>, manually and green<\/strong> harvested (delayed<\/strong> harvest) before berries<\/strong> being rigorously selected, from the sunniest plots<\/strong> of those wide vineyards<\/strong>. Completed by an alcoholic fermentation<\/strong> at 15\u00b0C in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats<\/strong>, before being aged on slats<\/strong> in traditional chalk pits<\/strong>, both again in temperature-controlled<\/strong> stainless steel vats and partly in barrels<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Concretely, inhale its nose<\/strong> and don’t miss its logical aromas<\/strong> of raspberry and cherry, accompanied by subtle woody<\/strong> notes. It can translated by fresh, saline and velvet notes of red fruits<\/strong>, in order to combine some surprising finesse<\/strong><\/em> in your senses<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Following this logic, the so-called Composition Parcellaire<\/em><\/strong> range designates a family of cuv\u00e9es<\/strong><\/em>, all issued from identified localities<\/strong>, for being harvested<\/strong> and vinified<\/strong> separately, and more particularly for their highly distinctive expression<\/strong> from the Mailly-Champagne<\/strong> terroir.<\/p>\n

So in this range, we invite you to discover the composition of the Millesime 2015<\/strong><\/em>, which recently came out of the cellar. This reference<\/strong> easily reflects a real facet of the Mailly-Champagne<\/strong> terroir, including various plots<\/strong> in the heart of the village<\/strong>, mainly facing western<\/strong> and northern<\/strong> orientations, mainly from places called Dessus les Godats<\/strong><\/em>, but also Les Poules<\/strong><\/em> for the Pinot Noir<\/strong> grapes and even Sous La Ville Regards<\/strong><\/em> for the Chardonnay<\/strong> varieties.<\/p>\n

Supervised by the cellar master S\u00e9bastien Moncuit<\/strong>, you would undoubtedly be amazed by its low dosage<\/strong>, allowing an accord of roasted<\/strong> notes and nuts<\/strong>, perfect to express itself. This perspective<\/strong> somehow raises a certain woody<\/strong> and spicy<\/strong> harmony, conveyed by Pinot Noir<\/strong>, in the shadow of a peaty<\/strong> maturity. Once inside your palate, this juice<\/strong> would naturally reveal a very beautiful relief<\/strong>, displaying a juicy<\/strong> attack of citrus<\/strong> fruits, before being prolonged to reveal the tonic<\/strong> character of this wine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Thereafter, this poignant framework<\/strong> inspired some of the creative<\/strong> initiative involved by the Champagne Mailly<\/strong><\/a>, such as the birthday artwork<\/strong> for their 90th anniversary<\/strong> in 2019, again around the Composition Parcellaire<\/strong><\/em> thematics, since a whole category of packagings<\/strong> and labels<\/strong> has been redesigned with the contribution of the M\u00e9diane<\/strong><\/a> agency.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the last art project<\/strong> by Champagne Mailly<\/strong><\/a>, was initiated around the concept of Nature Millesime 2013<\/strong><\/a><\/em>, revisited by the artist Charles Neubach<\/strong><\/a>, a French<\/strong> multimedia artist, born in Paris<\/strong> in 1986 but who nowadays lives in Reims<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Indeed, proud of an experience of two years in Berlin<\/strong> in 2011, where he held a workshop at the Kunstfabrik HB55<\/strong>, within some work that led him to be part of the selection of the 58th Salon de Montrouge<\/strong>. After this consecration, he pursued some time in his studio<\/strong>, located in the Parisian<\/strong> region, where he had the occasion to exhibit.<\/p>\n

Then, he decided to settle temporarily at La Fileuse<\/strong>, an artistic wasteland in the city of Reims<\/strong>, the time of a residence<\/strong> of almost 4 years, where the artist tended to explore a couple of new techniques of painting<\/strong>, screen printing<\/strong>, educational interventions<\/strong> and in situ<\/em> performances<\/strong>. This experience enriched his application scope<\/strong>, either visual<\/strong> and sensory<\/strong>, through a hybrid<\/strong> approach, sometimes using a musical<\/strong> production and a light encoding<\/strong>, forged in a closed and smoky space. <\/p>\n

Based on this florilege<\/em><\/strong>, an immersive art installation<\/strong> was directly designed at the Champagne Mailly<\/strong><\/a> estate, on the occasion of the commemoration of their 90th anniversary<\/strong>, along Les Billes<\/strong><\/em> sculptures by the Czech<\/strong> artist Hynek Skotak<\/strong><\/a> (pictured upon). After this first step, Charles Neubach <\/strong>joined the expression tribune<\/strong> offered to a bunch of contemporary artists<\/strong> in collaboration with some cellar masters<\/strong> of the domain.<\/p>\n

This is here the fifth edition<\/strong> of an original venture<\/strong>, already launched 20 years ago, under Les Artistiques Collection<\/strong><\/em> name. Taking precedence over his predecessors<\/strong>, back in time illustrating on various topics<\/strong>, such as the artists Bernard Pag\u00e8s<\/strong>, Florence Valay<\/strong>, Claude Vialat<\/strong> (we had previously admired in the In Situ<\/strong><\/em><\/a> festival in Occitania<\/strong>) and Xavier Coulmier<\/strong>, this colorful collection<\/strong> get enriched at this occasion by this new 2013 vintage <\/i><\/strong>redesigned by Charles Neubach<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

ngg_shortcode_4_placeholderThus, he signed an original artwork, both on a metallic box<\/strong> and on the bottle label<\/strong>, inspired by the shapes and colors of the domain’s vine plots<\/strong>, in order to realize a colorful tribute<\/strong> to one of the more famous terroirs<\/em><\/strong> of Champagne<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The same Charles Neubach<\/strong> admits that \u201cthe particularity of my artistic<\/strong> practice is to think and realize in situ<\/em> artworks<\/strong>, according to a context and some corollary<\/strong> constraints, through complex, subtle and nuanced digital artworks<\/strong>. By drawing lines, I imagine complex equations<\/strong> able to offer an aesthetic<\/strong> visual result. Here, each shape is the result of colorful<\/strong> overprints, gradients and superimpositions, on a living metal support<\/strong>. In this case, this is a vision above vine plots<\/strong>, mainly observed in autumn<\/strong> time, highlighted by many color shades<\/strong>, specific to this season<\/strong>. It is a projection of these Champagne<\/strong> vines, passed through my geometry<\/strong>, my matrices<\/strong> and my sensitivity<\/strong>. It is a living art installation<\/strong>, cradled by light<\/strong>, that offers, depending on its position and angle of view, a pretty unique perception<\/strong>, but constantly renewed<\/strong>.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

From a lightful champagne<\/strong> case..<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Furthermore, this Nature<\/strong> Millesime 2013<\/strong><\/a><\/em> is a limited edition<\/strong>, only issued at 17,950 copies<\/strong>, offered in a metal case<\/strong> adorned with this shimmering decoration<\/strong>, whose birth<\/strong> was still accompanied by S\u00e9bastien Moncuit<\/strong>, the cellar master<\/strong>. The result is a non-dosed Grand Cru<\/strong><\/em> champagne<\/strong> (without any added sugar<\/strong>), only based the 2013<\/strong>‘s harvest, which started late that year since it was collected on the estate<\/strong> from October 8th, 2013<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Once in mouth, you would be very quickly seduced by its fresh juice<\/strong>, mostly oriented on a selection of fresh white fruits<\/strong>, fulfilling anyone’s minimalist<\/strong> expectations. Starting from a dynamic<\/strong> bubbled structure, this Millesime 2013<\/strong><\/em> reveals the best identity of its soils, among its notes of spices<\/strong>, juicy pear<\/strong>, crunchy apple<\/strong>, matured clementine<\/strong> and even mandarine<\/strong>! This was made possible by bringing together the two main grape<\/strong> varieties cultivated in the vineyard<\/strong>, including the inescapable Pinot Noir<\/strong> (75%) and Chardonnay<\/strong> (25%).<\/p>\n

For your information, you could easily enjoy it as an aperitif<\/strong> or marry it with a salty starter of oysters<\/strong>, sashimi<\/strong>, ceviche<\/strong> and any other kind of fish, like sea bass<\/strong> or sea bream<\/strong> and even carpaccio<\/strong><\/em>.
