On September 28, 2024, at the famous Salle Wagram, this event, organized by the Prince Gong’s Mansion Museum, under the aegis of the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, dazzled guests with its masterful fusion of history and innovation. <\/strong>By AL & ST<\/em><\/p>\n

On the occasion of this event<\/strong>, more than 300 personalities<\/strong> from various backgrounds<\/strong>, from politics<\/strong>, business<\/strong>, art<\/strong>, academia<\/strong> and culture<\/strong>, were gathered. Guests included Chinese Ambassador<\/strong> in France<\/strong>, named Lu Shazhen<\/strong> and Minister Chen Li<\/strong>. Apart from them, you may have counted on important representatives<\/strong> of international institutions<\/strong>, such as UNESCO<\/strong><\/em>, along the National Agency for Scientific Research<\/strong> (CNRS<\/strong><\/em>), the National Academy of Fine Arts<\/strong> of France<\/strong>, and the Ch\u00e2teau de Chantilly<\/strong> graced this event<\/strong> with their presence<\/strong>. The 2024<\/strong> edition of this fashion show<\/strong> is of special significance<\/strong>, as it also marks the 60th anniversary<\/strong> of the establishment of diplomatic<\/strong> relations between China<\/strong> and France<\/strong>. For six decades<\/strong>, the two countries<\/strong> have maintained close political<\/strong>, economic<\/strong> and cultural<\/strong> ties. The geographical<\/strong> distance between them has never been an obstacle to these fruitful exchanges<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On the other side, this memorable event<\/strong> is part of a series of various initiatives<\/strong>, included in the China-France Cultural Tourism Year<\/strong><\/em>, aimed at further strengthening this cultural<\/strong> cooperation. The previous edition<\/strong> of the show<\/strong>, held in September 2023<\/strong> in Paris<\/strong>, had already allowed the international public to discover how China<\/strong> perpetuates and develops its rich traditional<\/strong> culture. <\/p>\n

The “Paris 2024 Prince Gong’s Mansion Fashion Show”<\/strong><\/em> was co-organized with the Chinese Cultural Center<\/strong> in Paris<\/strong> and supported by the Academy of Fine Arts<\/strong> of Tsinghua University<\/strong>, as an academic<\/strong> partner. Among the main actors<\/strong> of this event<\/strong> are Beijing Lawrence Xu Clothing Co., Ltd.<\/strong> and Beijing International Design Week Co., Ltd.<\/strong>, both responsible for the execution of the project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As far as we know, Lawrence Xu<\/strong>, an internationally renowned fashion designer<\/strong>, tended to lead this initiative<\/strong> with brio<\/strong><\/em>. He collaborated with a team<\/strong> of promising young designers<\/strong> in order to design 48 haute couture<\/strong><\/em> outfits, all of which were presented at this show<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The costumes<\/strong>, presented here, are inspired by various historical<\/strong> and cultural<\/strong> elements of Prince Gong’s Palace<\/strong><\/em>, such as “The First Blessing of the World”<\/strong><\/em>, “Fuqing Youyu”<\/strong><\/em> (a symbolic representation<\/strong> of prosperity and happiness), and “The Haibian Ceiling”<\/strong><\/em>. These visual and symbolic references<\/strong> are combined with ancestral craft techniques<\/strong>, such as embroidery<\/strong>, mother-of-pearl<\/strong> and brocaded silk<\/strong>. Drawing on rigorous academic<\/strong> research, these creations<\/strong> reflect a refined oriental<\/strong> aesthetic, adapted to contemporary<\/strong> taste. The traditional Chinese<\/strong> colors, omnipresent in the costumes<\/strong>, reaffirm the importance of cultural<\/strong> transmission, while offering a modern<\/strong> and transversal<\/strong> interpretation of these values<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The choice of Paris<\/strong>, the world capital of fashion<\/strong>, as the venue<\/strong> reinforces this universal message of sharing and mutual understanding<\/strong>. This artistic<\/strong> event underlines that culture<\/strong>, in all its forms, transcends geographical<\/strong> and political<\/strong> boundaries. Thus, the Prince Gong’s Palace Museum<\/strong><\/em> hopes that this event<\/strong> would serve as a starting point for a deeper reflection<\/strong> on how Chinese<\/strong> culture can be harmoniously integrated into contemporary<\/strong> life.
