Beautiful cellars to explore in the domain..

First, you have to know that the Domaine Buisson-Charles is run by Catherine Buisson, her husband Patrick Essa and their son Louis Essa. Together, they perpetuate a family tradition, while constantly trying to innovate. Their estate covers no less than 6.3 hectares and exploits plots, located on the Meursault border, as well as the Volnay, Pommard, Corton and Chambertin crus for the red wines, and Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Chablis Premier Cru and Grand Cru, Pouilly-Fuissé and Corton-Charlemagne for the white wines (photo credits: Jean-Marc Nolant / Domaine Buisson-Charles).

Just a short overview from the domain’s vines..

This family affair is as much as possible committed to environmentally friendly viticulture, adopting organic farming without certification. Working the fragile soils is essential, excluding the use of herbicides, since this natural approach is reflected in the exceptional quality of the wines produced, both white and red wines. The vinifications are carried out with great precision, using indigenous yeasts, and their aging is carried out in oak barrels, renewed at 20%, to preserve the authenticity of their terroirs.

Adding to this, their Meursault 1er Cru “In Memoriam” 2021 offers a striking visual and savorful experience. Its golden color, embellished with green highlights, announces a refined tasting. From the first nose, this wine reveals a remarkable aromatic richness, where white flowers harmoniously blend with stone fruits, such as peach and apricot. Never far from subtle notes of vanilla and toasted hazelnuts, all adding additional depth to this already complex bouquet. On gustatory aspects, the attack is ample, carried by a velvety texture, before attending exotic fruit flavors, enriched with nuances of honey and fresh butter, along blossom with a well-measured acidity that ensures a perfect balance. The lingering finish leaves a delicate imprint, testifying to the exceptional quality of this memorable cuvée.

These wines can be either enjoyed now or kept for evolution in your cellar, allowing all their complexity to be revealed over time.

Apart from this, don’t miss their incredible Corton Grand Cru 2021, for its part, impresses with its deep red color, adorned with purple highlights. This wine is a true treasure of expressiveness, full of intense nose, all exuding aromas of black cherry, blackcurrant and blackberry, enhanced by spicy notes of clove and black pepper. A subtle woody touch and nuances of liquorice complete this olfactory picture. On the palate, this grand cru would reveal a perfect harmony between power and finesse. The elegantly structured tannins give a velvety texture, while the flavors of red and black fruits are sublimated by notes of cocoa and vanilla. Adding to this, the skillfully mastered oak barrel aging brings additional complexity to this vintage.

As far as we know, the several wines of Domaine Buisson-Charles perfectly pair with many refined dishes. This is the case of the Meursault 1er Cru “In Memoriam” 2021 which is ideal with delicate dishes, such as sole meunière, pan-fried scallops or risotto with fresh asparagus. As for the Corton Grand Cru 2021, it enhances more robust dishes and cheeses

Among the other estate’s flagship vintages, the Meursault “Vieilles Vignes” 2022 stands out for its complexity and freshness. Made from a blend of six plots, this white wine offers an expressive nose of white fruits, apple, pear, honey and even marzipan, with a hint of menthol and spice. Once in mouth, it combines a certain concentration and balance, revealing a vibrant energy and a mineral finish.

As you can see, the Domaine Buisson-Charles continues to evolve, undertaking renovation and expansion projects for its infrastructure to refine its vinification and aging. This longtime approach aims to be as close as possible to the great terroirs that the team exploits with passion. Since 2011, the estate has expanded its range by developing a trading activity, including prestigious vintages, such as Corton-Charlemagne, Chablis Grand Cru, Vaudésir, and various premier crus of Puligny-Montrachet appellations.

This quest for excellence is the fruit of meticulous work and an unwavering passion for vines and wine. Indeed, the Domaine Buisson-Charles continues to shine on the Burgundy wines scene, offering wines of great elegance and remarkable complexity, as true reflections of their unique terroir.
