Champagne Vaucelle opens a new sparkling era for the Maison Thomas Cheurlin family house

Rooted in the winemaking heritage of the Côte des Bar appellation, for over ten generations, the Maison Thomas Cheurlin, located in Celles-sur-Ource, is turning a decisive page with the launch of Champagne Vaucelle. A new high-end champagne label. With this bold initiative, Thomas Cheurlin redefines his approach to champagne by blending authenticity, precision viticulture, and a profound respect for family traditions. Everything started with a terroir, shaped here by the ancient Jurassic Sea, whose rich and distinctive soils today support a practice of sustainable viticulture (photo credits: Champagne Vaucelle).
According to Thomas Cheurlin, working the vineyard means understanding that one is not its owner but its custodian, and that each gesture in the vineyard is an act of transmission. By AP & AL
First of all, the name Champagne Vaucelle finds its roots in old Champenois dialect, evoking the small valleys, where the family’s vines still flourish nowadays. It also echoes a long-lost Cistercian abbey, deeply tied to the region’s spiritual and agricultural past. With this new brand, the winemaker channels a renewed energy, faithful to the soul of the estate, yet fully focused on contemporary excellence. Then, this brand new labelled Champagne Vaucelle collection includes six champagne references, each exclusively made from the estate’s own grapes.
Indeed, every bottle carries the winemaker’s imprint, through meticulous attention to both vineyard and vinification practices. Crafted only from the first pressing and aged for an extended period on lees, these wines reveal a wide range of elegant, nuanced profiles. Still independent and family-owned, the Maison Cheurlin has successfully combined a certain historic savoir-faire with modern ambition, staying true to its values, while boldly affirming its Champenois identity, as admits Thomas Cheurlin: “Let the echo of the valleys resonate”.
With Champagne Vaucelle, the owner Thomas Cheurlin does more than introducing a new range of champagnes, since he sets an innovative course, like a compass rose guiding a sailor, led by nature, family memory, and a continuous pursuit of excellence.
Each bottle tells a story, this of a unique terroir, a true living heritage, and a family who dares to bridge past and future with a new combined vision of clarity and purpose.
For your information, every step of this winemaking process wishes to respect the region’s traditional methods, hand harvesting, plot-by-plot pressing, carefully managed malolactic fermentation, and an adjusted dosage tailored to each cuvée’s personality. The estate adheres to a strict sustainable viticulture program, proudly certified with both HVE 3 (for High Environmental Value) and VDC (Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne) labels, ensuring a deep commitment to preserving this native fragile land.
Among them, you could count first on a non-vintage brut champagne, blending Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, sourced from sun-drenched slopes in the Ource, Seine, and Arce valleys. Here, this expressive sparkling wine is naturally baptized Les Vallons and offers floral and fruity complexity with a clean mineral finish.
Thereafter, don’t miss their rosé de saignée, entirely made from Pinot Noir, eponymously grown on Le Suchot parcel, able to seduce any epicurean, with its red berry aromas and vibrant mouthfeel, as an exuberant, festive wine.
Another standout would undoubtedly reside in their Blanc de Noirs, logically called Terre Natale. This full Pinot Noir cuvée, partially aged in oak foudres, wishes to express as much as possible both the region’s monastic heritage and its strong identity.
This wide collection also includes Terre Nacrée, a pure Chardonnay wine, crafted from grapes. Those are all grown in La Faucillière and La Loge parcels, offering a certain finesse and bright minerality, ideal to pair with seafood.
On top of that, you could also count on their rare Terre de Nuances, made from 100% Pinot Blanc, a seldom-used variety in Champagne. This fresh cuvée promises to deliver genuine freshness and originality, especially after 60 months of aging, even limited to just 2,000 bottles.
Finally, the house’s flagship reference, named Cuvée des Ambassadeurs, made with 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, aged for 72 months, offers citrus on the nose and as well an ample, mineral-driven palate, as an exceptional champagne for refined dishes and moments.
