Early XXth century view of vineyards around Seneca Lake..

Among the various wineries in the United States, the New York State has been developing strong and distinctive viticultural identities, notably due to a history of wine that dates back to the 17th century and continues to evolve thanks to a subtle balance between tradition and modern techniques. Promoted by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation, the heart of this dynamic, the Finger Lakes stand out as a flagship appellation. Their cool climate, moderated by deep glacial lakes, encourages slow grape ripening, preserving acidity and aromatic finesse. There, Riesling reigns supreme here, producing precise and vibrant wines, while Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc reveal the potential of cool-climate reds. Between rolling landscapes and a sustainable approach, the region embodies the exciting renewal of American viticulture, again present at the Wine Paris VinExpo 2026 fair. By AP

We start this Parisian introduction tour with the Brut 2020 cuvée, brought by Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard illustrates precise expertise in the traditional method. A balanced Chardonnay/Pinot Noir blend, it charms with its freshness, taut minerality, and fine mousse, enhanced by 44 months on lees.

Meanwhile, the 2020 sparkling rosé, made using the traditional method by Living Roots Wine & Co, also from the Finger Lakes and crafted from Pinot Noir, combines elegance and precision. Aged three years on lees and made without any dosage, it reveals toasty notes and fresh strawberry, carried by a fine bead and remarkable purity.

Thereafter, the Dry Riesling “Lahoma Vineyards 2024″, generated by Apollo’s Praise captivates with its brightness and precision. From the Seneca Lake AVA, it combines tropical fruit, white flowers, and peach aromas, supported by some real mineral tension and a long, harmonious happy end.

While, the Unoaked Riesling Riemer Block 2023 from Buttonwood Grove Winery, sourced from old vines, impresses with its off-dry balance. Insights of white peach, followed by a fresh palate with lime and wet stone, carried by pronounced minerality.

The Riesling Grace Vineyard 2024 from Ria’s Wines, also from old vines in the Finger Lakes, offers beautiful tension. Dry and pure, it reveals green apple, citrus zest, and refreshing minerality.

The Cabernet Franc 2023 issued by Hosmer Estate Winery, grown near Cayuga Lake, showcases vibrant fruit and fine structure. Notes of blackcurrant, plum, and raspberry are supported by fine tannins and a pleasant finish.
