Coty proves to be a Fragrance Disruptor since 1904, by launching its new Infiniment Coty perfume line
Coty, one of the world’s leading beauty companies, is celebrating this year 2024, its 120th anniversary, with an exceptional event, dedicated to the perfumery’s history. This tribute to its history was taking place in Paris, where the brand was founded in 1904. The event, entitled “Coty: A Fragrance Disruptor since 1904”, was intended to be a multi-sensory experience that immerses guests in an immersive olfactory journey, reflecting Coty’s lasting impact on the world of perfumery, since its beginnings. Today, true to this avant-garde spirit, Coty continues to push the boundaries of olfactory science and even art by leveraging cutting-edge technologies, such as molecular aura and the so-called EmoChar™ patent, so many innovations that extend the olfactory signature of its new 14 fragrances by Infiniment Coty and eventually analyze their emotional impact. Since its creation at the beginning of the 20th century, the legendary Coty house has been redefining the codes of perfumery. The innovation that marked its early years was based on the innovative use of synthetic molecules, a revolutionary advance for this time. This also allowed Coty to open up new perspectives in the design of perfumes, introducing more intense and long-lasting fragrances, which marked a turning point in the history of perfumery. Therefore, this previously mentioned Parisian event, baptized “Coty: A Fragrance Disruptor since 1904”, pays tribute to the brand’s rich history (photo credits: ST).
Located just a few steps away from the illustrious Opéra Garnier, in Paris, this memorable installation offered guests a retrospective of Coty’s greatest creations. Among these are the first flasks, created in collaboration with the famous designer René Lalique, back in 1905, a collaboration that marked a turning point in the evolution of perfumery, by notably transforming simple perfume bottles into true works of decorative art. For instance, a major milestone in this history was the launch of Chypre masterpiece in 1917, which introduced the chypre olfactory family to the galaxy of perfumery. A bold blend of oakmoss, citrus and jasmine notes, with a touch of patchouli and musk.
The event was also distinguished by a presentation of the latest trends in olfactory composition, illustrated through an olfactory book, where different accords are revealed.
Among these contemporary trends, we find in particular compositions around citrus fruits, Ligurian neroli, particularly and exclusively extracted for the Alchemist’s Garden collection by Gucci, or the new Atelier des Fleurs line by Chloé, which is preparing to launch a perfume, mixing orange blossom and sandalwood, in September 2024. Other fragrances, expected for 2025, are based on vanilla notes or revisiting the chypre accord, like the upcoming launch of the Jil Sander collection.
Therefore, a good occasion to rediscover some of the iconic fragrances, conceived by Coty for other licenses, that all left a mark on olfactory history. This is the case of the Jovan Musk for Women, created in 1972 by Murray Moscona, this fragrance with sensual musk notes quickly attracted attention. Inspired by the hippie movement and reinforced by the Rolling Stones tour, it imposed a unique touch with an unprecedented concentration of musk. Then, have a look at Davidoff Cool Water, imagined by Pierre Bourdon in 1988, this masculine fragrance exudes an intense freshness, evoking an energetic and natural virility, somehow revolutionizing men’s perfumery.
Thereafter, don’t miss the Marc Jacobs‘ Daisy legend, launched in 2007, this fragrance by Alberto Morillas, symbolizing a certain youth and innocence with its fruity and floral notes. Daisy redefines femininity by offering a light and sparkling composition. Anticipating the success of their Eau de Toilette, the Chloé‘s Signature Eau de Parfum embodies modern femininity according to Chloé. Launched in 2008, this light and floral fragrance is based around white rose, enhanced with freesia, musk and cotton flower, for a soft and mysterious wake. Presented in a glass and metal bottle, decorated with an ivory ribbon, this elixir is a tribute to the sophistication and naturalness.
Moreover, on a more educational approach, another room from this exhibition highlights Coty‘s creative process. It illustrated the development of fragrances, essentially through various technical elements, such as diffusivity and more precisely molecular aura, all concepts that make it possible to amplify and prolong the presence of a perfume.
This deep research on our emotions, evoked by various scents but not only, reflects the importance of emotional impact in the art of contemporary perfumery, a field in which Coty specializes itself.
Then, the latest addition to this innovative tradition is Infiniment Coty Paris, launched to celebrate this milestone anniversary. This fragrance collection embodies the alliance of high technology and Coty’s century-old know-how, through 14 references issued in 2023. Thanks to molecular aura, that extends the persistence of notes, and EmoChar™, a technology able of measuring the emotional effect of fragrances, we can say that Coty is at the forefront of the new generation of perfumes. This visionary legacy, rooted in modernity, perpetuates the spirit of Coty, always seeking transformation and innovation in the field of perfumery.
Therefore, the large and brand new Infiniment Coty Paris collection brings together 14 fragrances, all inspired by positive human emotions, measured by neuroscience. Starting by the I Am Dawn range which offers fresh and floral notes, symbolizing awakening and spontaneity senses. Then, the I Am Day collection evokes self-affirmation with emblematic, through modern and universal accords. Finally, I Am Dusk is enriched with nocturnal flowers, wood and amber, for an enveloping and intense sensuality. Each fragrance acts as a catalyst for emotions, embodying a real delicacy and power.
Plus, don’t forget that the design of those white and transparent bottles, imagined by the founders of this new line, Sue Nabi and Nicolas Vu, is distinguished by its I letter shape, evoking a true symbolic letter. This design object can also become a work of art, thanks to the artist Francisco Vidal‘s realizations, who designed patterns on glass, reaffirming Coty’s commitment to art and creativity. As you can see, for over 120 years, the Coty house has not stopped to establish as a main key player in the transformation of perfumery. Here a new chapter opens, after the introduction of synthetic molecules in the early 20th century, the alliance of science and emotion arises, as constant proof of the brand’s avant-garde vision.
