M28 – Terres de Culture proposes Les Chemins du Vivant artistic residency around Montpellier and Sète

As a return to nature, all artistic expressions take all their senses, here near La Mosson river..

From September 26 to October 5, 2025 (and even longer), the M28 – Terres de Culture association invites locals and visitors to an extraordinary artistic journey and residency, better known as Les Chemins du Vivant. On the menu, more than 100 free and exciting events are spread across 80 venues, spread all over the Occitanian region, and more precisely in Hérault department, offer ten days of discovery, creation, and sharing around all forms of live performance. Each residency serves as a laboratory of ideas, encouraging intimate or collective encounters, conceived as poetic breaths. Among those entertainments, public dictations, performances, and installations invite travelers and passers-by to join this cultural momentum. By AP & ST

Start your M28 escapade with some Montpellier architecture..

Born from the Montpellier-Sète bid to obtain the title of European Capital of Culture 2028, the dynamic M28 association continues its commitment by bringing together artists, from this vast region. This Chemins du Vivant collaborative project has built lasting connections with numerous municipalities and intercommunalities, from the Hérault Méditerranée complex to Le Grau du Roi, including Sète Agglopôle and Grand Pic Saint-Loup. After a year of artistic residencies, the time has come to reveal these experiments to their audience. Theatre, dance, performance art, visual arts, and music make up an eclectic program, where the exploration of the living notion is the guiding thread

Over the past 14 months, through a call for artist applications, the Montpellier 2028 project aims to be spread across more than 130 municipalities. The launch was marked by a concert by Blick Bassy at the Domaine d’O. Many highlights follow, starring street theatre with the Begat Theatre at Le Peyrou, along inspired choreographic creations by Nicolas Fayol and Salia Sanou, plus a children oriented DJ set at the Pagezy Hall, and other unexpected performances, such as the action by La Mondiale Générale company at the Montmaur Woods (photo credits: AP).

Iconic locations will also host these experiences, from the Aniane Abbey to Château Laurens in Agde, from the Lunel Canal to the Mosson natural site. All of these places can be connected thanks to the Festicar application, a cultural carpooling service. Meanwhile, SNCF Gares & Connexions is partnering with this multicultural event, through a series of exhibitions and performances in the different train stations of Agde, Sète, Frontignan, Montpellier, Lunel, and Vic-la-Gardiole, from September 8 to October 24, 2025

As you can see, with this Les Chemins du Vivant path, the M28 association and Montpellier municipality both confirm their respective roles as artistic and civic catalysts, offering a sensitive and festive journey through the Occitanian region. For example, the Pension de Famille structure, with their Gardeno Paradizo, that hosts various residents in social reintegration. In this multifunctional living space, there is also a mini-nursery, and in the adjoining nourishing garden, a kitchen tableware made of recycled materials has just been installed, simply named The Growing Kitchen, decorated with a patchwork of fabric scraps.

Finally, a bit further and closer to the Mediterranean Sea, you will be able to admire the Parcours Flow, represented by several artists, inspired by marine life, showed in the Musée de l’Etang de Thau. Before, contemplating a unique artwork, baptized Mare Nostrum, captured by the photographer Markus Kaesler, at the Musée de la Mer in Sète, filled with model ships of all kinds, showcasing a collection of 2,749 small sea-colored photographs, paying tribute to as many victims who attempted to cross the Mediterranean Sea. Without forgetting the Superbemarché exhibition, about citrus thematics in the MIAM Museum, also in Sète.
