In spring 2024, the Parisian Galerie Negropontes inaugurated a new exhibition space in Venice, within the Palazzina Masieri. Built in the 17th century on the illustrious Grand Canal, this emblematic residence, redesigned by Venetian master Carlo Scarpain the 1970s, now rediscovers its vocation as a dialogue between art and architecture. The renovation was entrusted to architects Roberta Bartolone and Giulio Mangano of Studio Barman, who managed to preserve the spirit of the place while infusing it with contemporary energy. From now, stay tuned about the artistic news from those both sides. By AL & ST

This opening marked a turning point for gallerist Sophie Negropontes, from Greek-Romanian origin, who used to be trained in business and luxury fields. She founded her first gallery in Paris in 2012, from photography to sculpture, she cultivates a multidisciplinary approach, blending decorative arts and contemporary creation. Her new Venetian address, located in the Dorsoduro district, extends this vision, as a bridge between two shores, the Seine river and the Grand Canal, between a certain heritage and modernity. The inaugural exhibition, named Armonia Metis, presented from March 22nd to November 24th, 2024, celebrated some diversity and artistic hybridity. On the ground floor, you may admire various artworks by the gallery’s artists, engaging in an open dialogue, while upstairs, the glass sculptures of the duet Perrin & Perrin, paying homage to Scarpa, while playing with correspondences between light, geometry, and architecture, meet the poetic creations of Mircea Cantor.

This first exhibition somehow affirmed Sophie Negropontes’ desire to open a space for exchange where disciplines may intersect. In continuity with this approach, the gallery presents, from April 17th to November 22nd, 2025, the Architectural Landscapes, in partnership with the Heritage Asset Management structure. Designed as an echo to the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale, this exhibition explores the links between material, space, and memory. For instance, the monumental sculptures of Gianluca Pacchioni engage in dialogue with Pinton tapestries in a sort of imaginary garden, evoking in a way the 1950s debates around Frank Lloyd Wright’s project for the Palazzina. On the third floor, a series of temporary exhibitions, including Scarpa-Zanon, Dialoghi in collaboration with IUAV University, continue this reflection on the transmission of know-how and the continuity of craftsmanship. Between history and creation, the Galerie Negropontes transforms the Palazzina Masieri into a living space where design, architecture, and contemporary art meet, celebrating beauty in all its forms (photo credits: Galerie Negropontes).

While in Paris, from September 17, 2025 to January 9, 2026, the Galerie Negropontes invites visitors to discover “Trilogie, une histoire d’explorations artistiques” (“Trilogy – A Story of Artistic Explorations“), a collective exhibition bringing together eight creators around a demanding yet inspiring format, the triptych. Each artist has imagined three artworks as variations on a single gesture, exploring repetition, rhythm, and transformation within the creative process.
The sculptures, installations, and art furniture on display reveal a shared fascination for noble materials, such as marble, glass, bronze, plaster, and horsehair and for the expressive power of form. For example, Gianluca Pacchioni contrasts raw stone with polished surfaces; along Éric de Dormael shaping ethereal architectures in plaster and paper, where light becomes structure. Whereas Jean-Christophe Malaval revisits marine mythology through his Atlantis vases, while Ulrika Liljedahl weaves horsehair into vibrant, chromatic compositions. Without forgetting the colorful parrots, imagined by the artist Tal Lancman.

Benjamin Poulanges builds fragile ceramic sandcastles, evoking solidified memories of play and imagination. In another hand, the Perrin & Perrin couple sculpts transparency in glass, seeking a balance between fullness and emptiness, structure and chaos. In the meantime, Mircea Cantor reflects on the paradox of the gift through marble forms resembling empty packages, while Mauro Mori presents monolithic marble vases that transform with shifting light.
Through these eight trilogies, this Trilogy exhibition unfolds as a poetic and sensory journey, a meditation on creation and metamorphosis, where each artwork becomes the reflection of a shared pursuit, as transforming matter into emotion.
