From September 15th to December 22th, 2023, the Galerie Negropontes, situated nearby the Louvre Museum, invites a team of alchemists, through its brand new eponym Alchemists exhibition.
This colorful ensemble has been realized by a total of eleven artists and designers, subsequently enriched by a second part including a presentation of original jewelry creations, notably by Jean-Christophe Malaval. Therefore, from October 5th, you’re invited to come back to pursue this unprecedented alchemy between those previously enunciated artworks and a completed presentation of jewelry, for another search for perfection between shapes and materials. A good occasion to admire a renewed dialogue between those pieces of art and jewelry, testifying to a new alchemy dimension, interacting those artworks and their creators.
This presentation of artists’ jewelry can be expressed through a bright series of necklaces, earrings and breastplates, where those exhibited creations demonstrate the multiple abilities to adapt from some original artists from the Negropontes gallery who opted to explore another field of jewelry the time of this exhibition. Whatever it would have been realized with the support of jewelry artists or simply the expertise of jewelers, you can be sure to admire various magnificent masterpieces. For instance, the sculptor Jean-Christophe Malaval, who already immersed into jewelry, proposes many mini-sculptures to wear on the finger or wrist, with his favorite silver material.
While Eric de Dormael develops his passion for brass, by gathering different shades in his pieces, where his art installations oscillate between notions of furniture and artwork.
Moreover, the sculptor Agnès Baillon works on contemporary cameos, made from porcelain or resin, based on golden supports, while the Greek jeweler Elena Syraka shares her own inspiration from mythology and brings a real precious and dreamlike dimension, to wear at any occasion.
Following the legendary wave of Hokusai, emerging two centuries ago, and notably his randommanga, the Japanese painter Elena finds much inspiration into drawing plenty of small characters in fairy frameworks. As far as we know, those may be considered as small fictional creatures, called chibi-chans, including the chibi word which is a Japanese word that defines a small person, baby or child.
Therefore, until October 22th, 2023, let’s take some time to admire the Chibi-Chan, especially depicted for you at the exhibition of the artist Elena. Settled in the gastronomic Clos Y restaurant, nearby the high Montparnasse Tower, and curated by Véronique Grange-Spahis, don’t miss this colorful tribute to Hokusai, starring various paintings representing Mount Fuji and even the revisited Great Wave off Kanagawa, where her chibi-chans are having a blast. Most of the creations of Elena are adorned with bright colors. Thus, we can admit that Elena‘s works convey a certain traditional Japanese art. That’s why we deeply invite you to enjoy a drink, a gastronomic dinner or just have a tour at the Clos Y, to navigate into those canvases, cradled between pop art and street art.

Indeed, the textile pieces of those two visionary designers tend to reach some simplicity, by eventually concealing an extreme complexity of design philosophy.
“As soon as you have found something of a personal and unique character, you must exploit it to the fullest and continue to realize it without stopping it and until the end”, admitted Madame Grès. To this, Azzedine Alaïa responded years later: “When an idea imposes itself on you, you have to lasso it, turn around it and not deviate from it.”
In fact, those fashion icons are federated according to their formal principles, along their constant research in terms of fabrics or colors improvement. From timeless casual or prestige elegant dresses, no less than 60 creations of those two gifted designers are exhibited here, by inviting the visitors to attend an exclusive dialogue between those two geniuses, who may be considered as two stubborn loners who became dress sculptors.
